Is there anybody who doesn't know the bridge of Avignon? Only 50 km from Vaison–la–Romaine the former Pope's residence is worth a visit in summer and winter. Places of particular interest worth visiting: The Pope's Palace, the Notre Dame des Doms cathedral and the Place de l'Horloge.

Grotte de la Cocalière

Die Grotte de la Cocalière is situated in a karst area Grotte de la Cocalière and is one of the most beautiful cave in France.

Itinerary: Drive from the Moulin via Vaison la Romaine, Bollène, Pont Saint–Esprit, Bagnols–sur–Cèze to Saint–Ambroix and follow the road sign Grotte de la Cocalière on D904. Travel time ca. 2 hours. 110km

Fontaine de Vaucluse

The department of Vaucluse got his name in the 18th century from "Vallis clausa" (narrow valley). At the bottom of a rock crag rising to 200m arises the river Sorgue from the most powerful spring of France. Especially in spring and autumn a fascinating natural spectacle.

Itinerary: Malaucène – D938 – Carpentras – D938 – Isle–sur–la–Sorgue – D25 – Fontaine–de–Vaucluse.

Sault – Gorges de la Nesque

Gorges de la Nesque The canyon de la Nesque is the second largest canyon in Provence. Archaeological findings prove that 150 000 years past humans hunted hereabouts rhinos, aurochses, deers and elks. The town Sault en Provence (UNESCO world heritage) dominates the valley of the same name. In summer the flowering lavender fields attract a large number of visitors.

Itinerary: Entrechaux – D5 – Mollans sur Ouvèze – Vallée du Toulourenc – D942 – Sault.

From one castle to another

Throughout the country fortresses and castles tell the history of the Provence of the Pope. The fortress of Gordes dominates one of the most beautiful villages of France. Le Barroux, the Renaissance castle, is visible from far away or the castle ruin of Vaison–la–Romaine, in former times property of the dukes of Toulouse.
